This week’s book read was Madeleine L’Engle’s “Walking on Water“:   I actually bought this book last September, but then I decided to choose it for my book read choice, so I’ve saved it until now to read. I still think my favorite of Madeleine’s L’Engle’s “thinking” books is “A Circle of Quiet,” but I enjoyed this read regardless. Not everyone in book club loved it, which reminded me I’m a little odd. Whenever I read a Madeleine L’Engle book I feel like I’m talking to the self I wish I could be… if I were more in tune with God, less frustrated with life,Read More →

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been reading “Glimpses into the Life and Heart of Marjorie Pay Hinckley.”     I’ve read some of Hinckley’s other books before (“Small and Simple Things“, and “Letters“), and enjoyed her humorous, quick-witted wisdom, as well as her overall joy. This book was especially enjoyable because several of her talks were included in an appendix. Since we don’t get to hear many talks from the wives of the General Authorities, I was excited to read what all those people overseas get to hear from these wonderful women.   Like I said before, I think my favorite thing about thisRead More →

I’ve been thinking about what it is that makes people want to create. What it is that makes us want to move forward in our lives, and to accomplish goals. Is it all a bid for success? Is it a love of work? Is it competition? Is it fear of being still? Is it a belief in a wonderful ending, if only we make it through the rough slog? For me, I think it has a lot to do with wanting to create beauty. I want all my efforts – in whatever avenue I’m currently obsessing over – to come up with something beautiful. IRead More →

This year I began a new project on January 1st. Yes, it’s pretty typical to start new projects with the beginning of the year, but that’s because it is such a nice, new, fresh start. New calendars. New notebooks. No mistakes. I had tried this project last May, but fizzled out before a week passed. Not surprising, since I was about a month away from delivering my sixth baby, and then moving across the country to a new home. But I still wanted to try the project, so when January 1st rolled around, I tried again. So far, it’s been going much better. I’ve evenRead More →

And how are our dogs? Let’s be honest, I had to wait a while on our update because there have been many a day I hoped the dogs would manage to get themselves lost and run away. Our pups are extremely good-natured and very smart – after all they’re labradoodles – but they are also puppies, and they are large, and they insist on pooping regularly. Cleaning up the yard isn’t exactly the most fun ever. The kids did a great job helping until all the snow, at which point they found it way too tricky. Luckily the pups don’t have pooping accidents in theRead More →
