More from the project…

More from the project…

I’ve been forgetting to post some of my “Everyday Poems.” I explained here how I’m trying to write one poem everyday, a thankful/gratitude poem for a beautiful moment. They don’t always get typed up immediately, and they are all first-draft poems, but here are a few of my favorites from the past few weeks:

Day 34 – February 3, 2017

Have you ever

pretended

to be a ninja

while going

to get a cup of milk?

If not,

you have missed out

on sliding across the floor,

bounding to your feet,

and celebrating the victory

of a cup

grabbed from the cupboard

and set free.

Day 42 – February 11, 2017

Tiny shoots of green,

springing out of the dirt

Did you hear?

Did you hear the spring?

It’s a swoon of relief

to see them there.

The promise of green

and sun

and life

after all those storms.

Clustered together,

shooting their way into the sky.

I want to lie down and hug them.

Or at least clap.

Handing them a standing ovation

For their all important work.

Of pushing their noses

out of that

dark, dark ground.

Day 45 – February 14, 2017

Who would think

a fence

and it’s newly centered poles

Could bring such happiness?

To each its place,

including the dogs.

The promise of planted flowers – not uprooted.

Of rolling in the cool, clean grass – barefoot meanders.

The promise of tomatoes – warm with the sun.

Call it a dog run.

I call it glorious.
